Our Vision

A sacred space for prayer, unity and hope

The Syria National Prayer Breakfast will bring together leaders and people of goodwill for a time of prayer for Syria and its people: for healing, for reconciliation, and for a future built on dignity, peace and mutual respect.

Rooted in the spirit of the National Prayer Breakfast movement, the gathering creates room for honest conversation across lines of faith, community and background, and for fellowship that looks beyond what divides us.

Alongside prayer, participants will hear from speakers, share in meaningful dialogue and meet others who care deeply about Syria’s people and their future.

History

A movement of prayer that spans the world

Since 1943, members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives have met each week while Congress is in session to pray and to talk openly about the needs of their nation.

In 1953, President Dwight D. Eisenhower attended a gathering by invitation, marking the beginning of the National Prayer Breakfast tradition.

Today, prayer breakfasts are held in many countries, each bringing together public leaders, faith voices and citizens to pray for their nation and to encourage forgiveness and reconciliation.

The Syria National Prayer Breakfast joins this global family of gatherings, with Syria and the Syrian people at its heart.

About Syria

A land where faith and civilization have met for thousands of years

Syria sits at the crossroads of the ancient world. Damascus, its capital, is counted among the oldest continuously inhabited cities on earth — home to the Street Called Straight, the Umayyad Mosque, and lanes that have carried pilgrims, merchants and travellers for millennia.

In the hills above Damascus, the village of Maaloula still speaks Aramaic, the language of Jesus. In Aleppo, a citadel has watched over one of the great trading cities of the East. In the countryside, olive groves have been tended by the same families for generations.

And everywhere, hospitality: the Syrian instinct to set another place at the table, however little there is. That is the Syria this breakfast gathers to honour — not the headlines, but the people.
